Miami-Dade County Schools

Schools in Miami-Dade County are administered by the largest school district in Florida, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS). Founded in 1885, the school district is the fourth largest in the United States with nearly 400 schools, 345,000 students, and more than 40,000 employees. The school district is located at the southern end of the Florida peninsula, encompassing approximately 2,000 square miles made up of diverse communities.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools is also one of the few public school districts in the country to offer optional international studies and bilingual education.Languages offered include Mandarin, French, German, Haitian Creole, and Spanish.

Open since 2003, Aventura City of Excellence School (ACES) is a state-of-the-art charter school operated by the City of Aventura in conjunction with Charter Schools USA.

The school is located adjacent to Aventura’s Community Recreation Center, which gives the students easy access to its facilities. ACES is able to enrich each of its students’ learning and social atmosphere through a safe school campus, small class sizes and low student-teacher ratio, technology integration in every classroom, and a wide variety of specialty classes.

Norman S. Edelcup Sunny Isles Beach K-8

Known formerly as Sunny Isles Beach Community School, Norman S. Edelcup Sunny Isles Beach K-8 serves approximately 1,800 students from kindergarten to 8th grade, in communities that include Sunny Isles Beach, Golden Beach, and Eastern Shores. The school was opened in 2008, and has a special use agreement with the City of Sunny Isles Beach, giving students access to Pelican Park, a city park located just across the street.

North Beach Elementary School is an International Baccalaureate World School that aims to develop independent, international-minded, lifelong learners to create a better global community.  The school provides high-quality education through its challenging IB Program, which encourages students to reach greater heights. The school’s curriculum focuses on providing students with an international education designed to help them develop into knowledgeable, caring, and open-minded individuals.

North Beach Elementary School currently has over 1,000 students and nearly 70 full-time teachers.

South Pointe Elementary School

Established in 1991, South Pointe Elementary School is located in Miami Beach’s southernmost tip, covering approximately five acres. It first opened as an experimental school under a partnership between Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Education Alternative’s Inc., a private company. The joint project was based on the “Tesseract” model, a philosophy that recognizes every child’s unique personality and how they can develop through an individualized education plan.

South Pointe serves students from pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade and is recognized as an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme World School.
